As an Engineering Intern at Hi Tech Honeycomb, I was part of a team that developed and implemented an industrial resistance welding automation system.
Hi Tech Honeycomb, like other honeycomb ring manufacturers, uses the resistance welding process to shape their honeycomb structures. However, due to the intricate geometry of the small 1/32" cells, this process is carried out manually using welding tweezers with the welders fusing two cells at a time.
After consulting with the welders, we designed the Welding Table that enables users to weld ten cells at a time with the press of a pedal. Our solution is projected to save HTH 40,000 USD annually, while also taking the manual element out of resistance welding.
